Pittsburgh Public Schools Career & Technical Education

Through this training, students gained valuable knowledge and experience along with the necessary tools to prepare them to enter the workforce or continue onto postsecondary with more confidence. The cornerstone to the JSS program was the interview process. It helped students build their self-esteem and it provided them with career exploration and work readiness knowledge. (April 2010)

ENEC has used the JumpStart Success curriculum for several years. Over the previous 10 months, JSS has been the career readiness curriculum for youth in both the 2009 Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program and in the BGC after school Community Works population. The audience has been made up of 14-18 year olds from low income homes from primarily impoverished neighborhoods. For many of our young people that have had little or no work history, JSS forms the framework to explore and experience work-related issues to better prepare for a successful vocational experience. Western Area Career & Technology Center (WACTC)

WACTC has had the pleasure of partnering with YouthWorks, implementing their Jumpstart Success program. Our Career Awareness and Exploration program was highly successful and was well received by students, faculty members, and administrators from all of the participating nine districts. We found the interactive instructional modules contained in YouthWorks' Jumpstart Success to be thorough, efficient, and comprehensive. Students respond well to the lessons and demonstrate significant gains when completing assessments. We have also noticed that students completing the program have enrolled in technical programs at our facility resulting from making an informed decision about their future. They have a plan and are working toward a career. I should also add that members of the YouthWorks staff are dedicated, professional, cooperative, and well versed. (April 2010)

    Pittsburgh Partnership

The Pittsburgh Partnership provides both year-round and summer youth employment programs that incorporate this training. This is an incredible assistance to the educators in the Pittsburgh Public Schools whose budgets don’t allow for this training but who must see that their students receive it. JumpStart Success is the program the Pittsburgh Partnership has tapped to provide this training. Programs that are supported by the Pittsburgh Partnership are intended to lead to successful negotiation of post-secondary education and/or other career-based employment. (April 2010)
