What is the HIRE Me Mentors Program?

The HIRE Me Mentors Program program serves youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who want to learn about careers and prepare for success. The program helps them build career plans and skills and prepare for school completion, post-secondary training and productive work.

When young people don’t see a path to employment, they are more likely to adopt risky or delinquent behaviors and ultimately, experience chronic unemployment. Young people who are engaged with a positive role models and equipped to navigate careers are more likely to see school as relevant, complete high school and post-secondary credentials, and transition to employment that launches careers. Mentoring isn’t just about today - it’s about the future.

What Do I Need to Do to Become a Mentor?

Mentors must be willing to:

  • Make a one-year commitment to the program 
  • Attend monthly outside activities with mentee(s)
  • Commit to correspondence by email and/or text with mentee
  • Complete a pre-mentor training and pass a thorough background check

Where Does the Program Take Place?

The program takes place at The Pittsburgh Project on Thursdays from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
