Youth Finds Success in YouthWorks Funded Program
DaJuan Millender is 20 years old and a Garfield resident. He graduated from McKeesport HS in 2006. He went on a mock interview through YouthWorks' funded program at Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation (BGC). That landed him a real interview with Get Go which in turn led to a job for him at Get Go. He plans to go to college soon and pursue a career in sports.
DaJuan is just one of many success stories coming out of BGC's Youth Employment Program (YEP), funded in part by YouthWorks. The program works to create progress in youths' personal lives, as well as, provide support in reaching career and educational goals. Participants receive unsubsidized employment, complete or enroll in post-secondary education and training, and make positive transitions in their personal lives. Like many YEP participants, one youth stated, "I thought this was something else, a waste of my time, but [BGC] really help us."
