Resources for Nonprofits Serving Youth
Youth Employment Program
Every two years, YouthWorks presents a request for proposals (RFP) from community-based organizations (CBOs) in the Pittsburgh area and funds work-readiness and career exploration experiences with a small number selected. In this program nonprofits in the community can help young people begin to build a career path, gain work-related skills and confidence and have a positive and valuable first-time employment experience right in their own communities.

YouthWorks staff work with these organizations to ensure compliance with youth workforce standards such as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and, where needed, to provide technical assistance to program operators.
When a youth completes this initial placement, YouthWorks evaluates the individual's growth and achievements. YouthWorks then works with each youth to select the next appropriate progressive experience in other YouthWorks program areas. Our goal is to help youth move on to the next step of successful employment while providing the needed training, support and supervision. Each step is designed to provide success, additional skills and increased self-esteem.
