3rd Annual Youth Workforce Development Conference BIG SUCCESS!
Close to 300 people attended the 3rd Annual Youth Workforce Development Conference, which kicked off Imagine Career Week on April 21, 2008 at the Omni William Penn Hotel, including 75  youth who participated in the first-ever all-day youth track. 

Lili Allen, program director for Boston’s Jobs for the Future, gave the morning keynote, sharing her knowledge of how to prepare youth for a global economy.  She then conducted a workshop for attendees on strategies for building systems to support youth in this endeavor and later continued the discussion with local leaders in a town hall meeting. 

C. Kemal Nance, director of Youth Leadership Initiatives, and youth ambassadors from Philadelphia Youth Network inspired the audience at lunch by demonstrating how youth can be motivated and supported through the use of best practices.  They also conducted an afternoon youth workshop, where students received guidance in discovering their dreams for the future and learned strategies for making those dreams a reality. In the afternoon, youth attended the Career Fair, where about 40 employers and community outreach services were represented.  They participated in mock interviews with volunteers from UPMC and Pittsburgh Human Resources Association.  The Fair was presented in conjunction with YouthLINK.
